FAQs
-
Our outpatient treatment program for eating disorders is for adolescents (13+) and adults who are 1) seeking supplemental services in addition to their outpatient therapy, 2) stepping down from higher levels of eating disorder care, or 3) just starting to seek eating disorder treatment and are physically stable enough to be treated in an outpatient setting . Collaborating with a client’s current outpatient team, our a la carte program offers individual therapy, family therapy, nutrition counseling and meal support groups.
-
We understand that eating disorders are caused by a variety of psychological, physiological, interpersonal, and social factors, and that each individual is unique in their own history and etiology of their eating disorder symptoms.
We adjust our treatment program to meet the diverse needs of each client so that they can best explore their behaviors, thoughts and feelings with a kind awareness that enables them to identify individual goals, stabilize disordered eating behaviors, develop new healthy behaviors, restore the mind/heart/body connection, and create emotional resiliency for long term recovery.

Length of outpatient treatment at Amrita depends upon a number of factors, including previous treatment, severity of eating disorder behaviors, need for weight restoration, and rate of progress.
-
Amrita’s team of clinicians are experienced with trauma and multiple diagnoses in addition to eating disorders and can address all of these in treatment. However, since Amrita’s primary focus is on eating disorder treatment in individual and group work, referrals may be made to specialists outside of Amrita if deemed necessary.
-
Currently Amrita has one track that combines clients with Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder, ARFID, and OSFED. Although each eating disorder has different symptoms and societal challenges, we believe clients can learn together and understand the common core issues underlying their different behaviors.
-
Amrita is not in network with insurance companies for our outpatient treatment program (only our IOP program is in-network) due to the challenges and cost of outpatient insurance billing. However, Amrita can provide a superbill that can be submitted to the insurance company to be reimbursed for out of network coverage. (Please check with your insurance coverage to understand your specific coverage.) However in some cases, Amrita may be able to make a single case agreement with insurance providers. Please contact Amrita if you are interested in a cost estimate for treatment. Amrita offers scholarships for clients in financial need.
